This is a great game. It was made back in 1997. And yet thousands of people are still playing it on Battle.net. It is still one of the top selling games. But what makes this game live on in the PC gaming world? Let's find out.

First off is the time when it came out. What RTS's could you play? Red Alert? Total Annihilation? Even those games are fun, Starcraft has lived on longer than any of these titles. Blizzard Entertainment has made one of the best games in the world.

When you think of Blizzard, you think of awesome games. The Warcraft Series, The Diablo Series, and now the Starcraft Series. Surely Starcraft is a great game.

There are the three races. Terran, Zerg, and Protoss. Amazingly they are all balanced. Terran are great for micromanaging, Zerg are good for mass units and rushing, and Protoss are good for heavy assault.

There is the gameplay. It is so easy to control the units. Just click, drag and poof you got multiple units selected. Then just right click and poof! They move right where you want them to go. Press the A button, click where you want the units want to go, and they automatically start attacking the bad stuff. This is a great improvement from Warcraft II. In Warcraft II you had to right click on the unit you wanted the people to attack. Therefore you had to keep watching them and keep clicking on where you wanted them to go.

And you can not forget the Campaign Editor for Starcraft.

Through this remarkable tool, you can make maps, and maps that have special triggers. With the triggering system you can have maps that tell a story, or RPG's or anything you want. Many people make maps to play on Battle.net. Some of the most popular are Matrix defenses, RPG's, Madness maps, and other's.

The story is excellent. Other games are just this "Over the past thousands of years, the Such-and-such people have been fighting the Stupid-blah-blah people" and you just jump in and start fighting. But with StarCraft, you start out as the Terrans, then you build up your "reputation" as you complete the missions, then you complete the Terran campaign. Then the story continues as you go to the Zerg campaign. And it keeps going as you go to the Protoss campaign.

The graphics are great for it's time, but in these games, almost all RTS's use 3D Engines instead of sprites. But when this game was made the graphics were excellent. Even now they are OK.

Yet even though this is an excellent game, there are downfalls. One is that there is only one fixed resolution. When I am playing StarCraft on my 13" monitor, everything is fine, but when you play it on something like a 17", everything is HUGE! If only you could reset the resolution.

This is an excellent game and is a must get!
